News: SFE Website to be maintained by Peter Bradshaw

The SFE is delighted to announce that Peter Bradshaw has agreed to maintain the SFE website for another year at least. In making the announcement David Brown chairman of the SFE confirmed that the SFE’s website has become a very important communications tool for the SFE and a reference point for those doing and wishing to do business with the organisation and offers those with an interest in the organisation a flavour of its ethos.

Although the use of the site has not shown the same growth as last year, when its use doubled, the daily hit rate is some per day making it an important communication tool for a small organisation with limited resources.

News: Rob Sawyer joins the SFE as a volunteer

The SFE is delighted to find itself with another volunteer to fill the void left by those who have recently moved on to full time training and employment. Rob brings a wealth of experience relating to the haulage industry which will no doubt prove invaluable.

Motorbikes are Rob’s hobby and he is the proud owner of two which means that Nick Malyon and he will no doubt spend a lot of time sharing notes.

News: Lee Smith wins Bench Press Competition and breaks the West Midland Record

SFE volunteer Lee Smith, who lifts for the British Powerlifting Federation, won the recent West Midlands 100 Kilo group by pressing a record 180 kg in Birmingham. Hopefully this bodes well for Lee with the 2012 Olympic selections just a year away.

Who said lifting furniture at the SFE was not a serious business?

Event: SFE Volunteers Christmas Party

It was great that staff and volunteers past and present were able to enjoy a great evening at the Pie and Ale House in the true spirit of the festive season. It was an evening of good humoured banter facilitated by fine food and sufficient golden liquid to relax the body without upsetting it. All are now looking forward to the challenges of the New Year. Hopefully it will prove to be a good and enjoyable one for all associated with the SFE.

Staff and Volunteers

Event: SFE Display in the Guildhall week beginning Monday 10th January 2011

Those who wish to learn more about the SFE and what it can do for you will have an opportunity to meet key members of staff and a number of volunteers at an exhibit which is to be mounted in the Guildhall during the week beginning the 10 January.

As well as getting an understanding of what is available from the SFE it is a very useful opportunity to learn what else the SFE might be able to do for you if you are looking for a volunteering opportunity. The SFE is always looking for volunteers wishing to develop their retailing, computing, driving and other skills at all levels. It helps if you bring a sense of humour and enjoy working in a team made up of all ages and backgrounds.
